Quality from the start
Lorenz Heckelmann founded the company in 1924. In its early years, helo® focused on producing wooden shoes at its home workshop. Gradually, more employees joined the company to meet growing demand. Step by step, the founder's sons and grandsons in subsequent generations expanded the family business into a leading manufacturer of household goods made of wood and plastic, which is now managed by Hartwig Heckelmann and his son Philipp. High-quality production has always been the top priority. helo® offers its partners top-quality products with exceptional durability and functionality. Environmental considerations are playing an increasingly important role, as helo® uses almost exclusively wood from sustainable forestry (FSC and other forestry certifications) and recycled plastics.
Strategy and planning
Clothes pegs and promotional items complement the product range.
From 1945 onwards, wooden clothespins in a wide variety of styles were added to the product range. In 1954, helo® also began producing plastic clothespins. Wooden goods such as bread and cutting boards became established in the helo® product range in the 1960s. The production of wooden spoons began in the 1970s. In 1980, helo® opened a new division with a wide range of wooden promotional items. This segment has since experienced above-average growth due to high demand. These items can be customized with branding, printing, or laser engraving. Furthermore, custom-made products are available.
Leading provider
helo® is one of the world's largest suppliers of clothespins. In the kitchenware and wooden plate segments, helo® is also a market leader. Furthermore, helo® has established a reputation as a producer of high-quality individual items such as wooden crates and stove covers. The product range is rounded out by leisure items and, in particular, a wide selection of wooden promotional materials.
Numerous national and international intellectual property rights for a wide variety of products, e.g. for plates, clamps, technical wooden parts, business card boxes, demonstrate the innovative spirit of the company.
Production with meticulous attention to detail and state-of-the-art technology
As the product range became increasingly diverse, the need for larger production facilities also grew. The first expansion phase took place in 1948 with the construction of a new hall. Since then, the company premises have been continuously expanded to accommodate new technologies. helo® has always prioritized state-of-the-art technology as the foundation for its high-quality products. Today, CNC machines for maximum precision dominate the production facilities. However, high-quality handcraftsmanship continues to play a vital role in the production of exclusive products. In addition to the administration building, two production halls, several warehouses, and a high-bay warehouse form the core of the company.
Wood out of conviction
Wood, a natural material, forms the basis of most helo® products. helo® places great importance on using predominantly wood from sustainable forestry in order to meet current customer demands.
Successful sales at home and abroadhelo® distributes its attractive products through trading partners both domestically and internationally. Exports now account for over a third of sales, generated primarily through helo®'s extensive participation in trade fairs. For over 30 years, helo® has been an exhibitor at national trade fairs, such as the "Trend" fair in Cologne, Wiesbaden, and Frankfurt; "PSI" in Düsseldorf; "Haptica" in Bonn; and "Ambiente" in Frankfurt; as well as international trade fairs in Dubai, Tokyo, and many more.
